About Casbah

If you’re looking to introduce friends to a Mediterranean spot that feels both polished and relaxed, Casbah is always an easy recommendation. Located at 229 S Highland Ave in Pittsburgh, this neighborhood favorite blends European influences with a modern American sensibility that shows up in both the menu and the atmosphere. From the moment you walk in, Casbah gives off that warm, low-key energy where conversations flow easily and meals are meant to be shared. The kitchen leans Mediterranean, so you’ll notice a focus on fresh ingredients, thoughtful seasoning, and dishes that feel balanced rather than heavy. I usually point people toward the small plates first, because they’re perfect for sampling different flavors without committing to just one direction. There’s a strong lineup of vegetarian options alongside carefully prepared meats, which makes Casbah a solid choice for mixed groups with different tastes. Healthy options and organic dishes also play a role here, adding to the sense that the food is crafted with intention instead of shortcuts. On the drinks side, the bar keeps things interesting with wine, spirits, and well-made cocktails that pair naturally with the menu. Beer, coffee, and happy-hour drinks round things out, so whether you’re stopping by early or lingering into the evening, there’s always something that fits the mood. Service options are flexible too, which is something I appreciate when recommending a place to others. You can settle in for a full dine-in experience, grab takeaway on a busy night, or even opt for delivery when staying home makes more sense. When the weather cooperates, outdoor seating adds an extra layer of charm and makes the space feel even more inviting. For special occasions or quieter gatherings, the private dining room offers a comfortable setting without losing that signature Casbah vibe. What really stands out is how effortlessly the restaurant fits into different plans, from casual catch-ups to more polished dinners. Every time I introduce someone to Casbah, the reaction is the same: it feels familiar, welcoming, and just elevated enough to feel special. That balance is what keeps it in regular rotation whenever I’m talking about where to eat in the city.

Another incredible meal at Casbah. Every dish was executed beautifully, and the flavors were spot on. We started with the Crispy Calamari and Rock Shrimp—light, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. The mix of textures from the calamari and shrimp kept each bite interesting, and the creamy sauce underneath added a rich, tangy contrast. For my entrée, I went with the Long Island Duck, and it was outstanding. The duck breast was perfectly medium-rare with a beautiful sear, and the confit leg was rich and fall-off-the-bone tender. Paired with fresh greens and gnocchi, it struck a perfect balance of hearty and fresh. Across the table, my fiance ordered the Saffron Pappardelle and it was equally impressive. The house-made pasta was tender yet toothsome, and the saffron brought a subtle earthiness to the dish. The additions of seafood, fresh herbs, and a delicate sauce tied everything together for a dish that was rich without being heavy. Service was warm and attentive, and the ambiance was the perfect blend of upscale yet relaxed.

I’m a frequent of this place and every single time everything is wonderful. I decided to leave a review today because the girl at the bar, Lexi, makes me love Casbah even more! She has always been so kind to me and talking to her is just therapeutic. I will always go straight to the bar if she is there. Please treat and pay her well. I will come here more.

First time visiting Casbah but it came recommended by some friends. Took my partner here for a celebratory dinner and it didn’t disappoint. We sat on the covered patio which was beautiful. Our server was extremely attentive and incredibly knowledgeable. She even knew all the farms where the food was sourced locally! The artichoke was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The chicken was the same, cooked perfectly and had great flavor. There isn’t anything about this place other meals that’s trendy or edgy, but you will get wholesome, perfectly cooked food with a ton of flavor and an intention to give people a top notch dining experience. I will definitely be back and will recommend to others.

It's got some aspects right for a restaurant at this price range, like the complimentary sourdough bread and fresh butter was really good. Main course of long Island Duck lookes great from all the reviews, but I felt it could have been executed better. Duck leg was cooked well and easily falling from the bone, but taste wise it's not very rich. The small cherries were bland, if they were more tart it could have balanced the dish much better. Duck breast was medium rare which I like, however the fat on the skin was barely rendered and not that crispy. The dish came with minimal sauce and was quite dry until I asked for extra sauce. Gnocchi just didn't taste like real ones at all, it tasted nothing like any Gnocchi I've had at all Italian restaurants I've been in my life. I left most of them... A big stressful point for me at the end was they don't accept contactless payment, physical card only... I only had my phone with me and I felt so embarrassed. However they let me called back with card numbers to pay after so it's sorted, but it was a pretty unfortunate end to an evening.

Visited for brunch today and it was lovely. They do a prix fixe menu at brunch for $38 that includes a brunch cocktail, a first course, and an entree. I had the seasonal pear mimosa that was delicious. For first course, we shared the beet salad and the smoked salmon. Salad was tasty and loaded with beets. The smoked salmon was a generous portion topped with all the accouterments and a potato cake, which could’ve been a bit more seasoned. For entrees, we had the braised lamb and the ricotta cavatelli, both tasty! I also had a house G&T which they are amaro to, would order again.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had. The drinks are okay but the food is amazing! We had the calamari, hummus and artichokes. All were delicious (best calamari ive ever had). For entrees we got the duck, steak, pork chop and short rib ravioli. Each dish was delicious we were blown away. Everything was very good

We ordered calamari, lobster pasta, and roast duck and simply calamari was our favorite one. They have a slightly unique calamari where each pieces are super fresh. The sauce was a bit creamy but still serve a great taste on the overall. Lobster pasta was okay in my opinion but i definitely still worth to try. No complaint for service and atmosphere, great place to try

Decided to celebrate our 11th anniversary at a place we hadn't been before - Casbah. We were seated downstairs which was cozy and intimate. Our server was very attentive and the pace of the meal was perfect. We had a hard time narrowing down our food choices, but I think we made some excellent picks. Started off with the crispy calamari and rock shrimp, roasted beet salad, and grilled artichokes. For our mains, my husband ordered the red pepper casereccia with scallops while I opted for the Scottish salmon with lentils and green beans. Everything was so delicious, and we managed to eat it all! Despite being completely full from our meal, our server brought us salted caramels which was a nice surprise. Thanks for a wonderful evening, Casbah!
